The Whitney Museum will be reopening this weekend. It is one of New York’s many museums that I have yet to visit. They are having a block party on the weekend to celebrate the occasion and the usual $22 entrance fee is also being waived. Given our last attempt at standing in a line, I have no idea how this is going to turn out.
The museum collection focuses on American contemporary art. Contemporary art seems to be a concept I struggle to grasp. Perhaps I have a renaissance soul? Or perhaps I just think a blank canvas is a blank canvas rather than a “rabbit in the snow”? Photography I can understand, even though as we move more into the digital age we question how much of photography is art and how much it is actually worth. Last year a photograph sold for $6.5 million and this sparked a fair amount of debate.
