the day passed without any fanfare

Two years and a little less than a month ago I arrived in New York, the city I have called home since that day. I am surprised that I forgot all about the day until I saw a Facebook post regarding another two year anniversary. So what are my stand out moments of the last two years?

  • Trip to Galapagos Islands – tsunami warnings, sunsets, sea lions and the phonetic alphabet. But every trip out of the city has been memorable, this just happens to be the most awesome. There are a lot of moments to choose from though – the helicopter over the Grand Canyon, seeing the hot air balloons at sunrise, my first time snorkeling, the atmosphere of New Orleans etc.
  • New Year’s Eve 2013 – waited it out in Times Square. Both uneventful and hilarious.
  • Tasting menu at Le Bernadin and Eleven Madison Park – definitely the most exceptional dining experiences I have ever had.
  • Realising that I would be leaving NY – terrifying, thrilling, sad and relieving. A rollercoaster of emotions.
  • The first time the baristas at Little Collins said “the usual?”. It kind of felt nice to be somewhere so familiar that there was a “usual”.
  • So many Broadway shows to choose from, but The Book of Mormon is definitely the stand out. The first time watching it with Ruth and Chris and then the second time watching it with my sister.
  • US Open 2013 Men’s Semifinals – awesome games, and then to watch the Women’s Doubles Finals from the court level was awesome.
  • Seeing The Secret Life of Walter Mitty being filmed and then almost 2 years later watching the movie.
  • Dancing to Gotye at an indoor concert with some guys a few rows in front smoking a joint. Concert was amazing and we didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg for the privilege.
  • Seeing Mariska Hargitay and Michelle Williams just walking around the streets of Manhattan like it’s perfectly normal. It probably is for them.
  • Seeing James Franco getting mobbed by his female fans. Absolutely hilarious!
  • Waking up at 6 in the morning to go out to Central Park in a snowstorm to make snow angels with my sister.
