way to bury the lead

“…with marvelous views of the sprawling city and the surrounding volcanoes. Go early morning, before the clouds roll in … unsafe due to muggings” – Lonely Planet

Last day of the tour involved the long flight back to Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where almost every tourist attraction has a warning of rapings and muggings. On our first night there it had been a Sunday so it was really quiet. In most cities work on Monday morning is a given. Anyone who chooses to party and drink does so at their own risk and judgment. But in Quito, the law has been passed that no establishment is allowed to sell alcohol, so clubbing on a Sunday night is sure to be a downer. This made the city seem really quiet when we first arrived. But tonight is Friday night and alcohol is flowing and emotions are high. So we witnessed some action on the streets while enjoying a lovely meal of guinea pig.
